Widnes International Rail Freight Terminal (WIRFT), owned and operated by AHC Westlink, was opened in 1999 and is accessible to any UK or International Rail operator. It is also open to Intermodal Operators who require lifting and storage of tank and shipping container units transported by road.

Currently two scheduled intermodal services arrive; one from the ports of Tilbury and Purfleet routing to Grangemouth via Widnes, the other from the deep sea port of Southampton. The services are open to any individual or shipping company wishing to take advantage of the services.

There is also a twice-weekly service operated on behalf of three major UK and International chemical industry companies.

Also part of the group is Victa Westlink Rail. Victa Westlink Rail is a specialist rail freight, passenger and services company, based in the Midlands and operates across the whole of the UK.

The range of services available at the Terminal include;

• Two 450 metre long rail tracks used primarily for intermodal handling.
  
  
• Two 350 metre long rail tracks directly adjacent to 150,000 sqft Customs Bonded warehousing with access to a further 450,000 sqft of warehousing.
  
  
• Two 45 Te Top and Bottom Lift container handlers.
  A storage area for up to 750 TEU’s
  
  
• SACTFF Approval – Security Assured Channel Tunnel Freight Forwarder
  
  
• Multiple camera CCTV, passive infra-red electronic security system and 24 hr, 365 days a year on site security officers.
  
  
• Access to AHC’s own transport fleet for road haulage throughout the North West and beyond.
  
  
• Public Weighbridge facility.
